I’ve written in the past about how my life has changed since being in Americorps. However I never really knew how much everything I’ve learned was put to the test. This second part of my term in Americorps has been eye opening. I’ve met people that have made it through life in the hardest ways but still move on. On August 24 I was able to give back to all the families out there. The Stanislaus Literacy Center along with the Library and the rest of the Americorps program around the country put on Read for the Record and for the first time I felt like I did something important. When I was walking around taking pictures and helping with the reading I saw the faces of the children light up with amazement. Though my year is almost over and I’ll have to be moving on I’ll always remember the things I’ve learned and done.
In my life right now I find myself using all the skills I’ve learned. My brother has moved out and has left me and my grandmother alone. When he left I found myself in a position of having to take on a bigger responsibility then I ever have before, taking care of my grandmother and all the household work. Shortly before my brother left I had started going to college. I had started getting my life back and was becoming a kid again, and then I was thrown into the world of adulthood. However this time around I find that it’s a lot easier if I use all that I have learned in this year. I want to thank all you at Americorps for this amazing opportunity and all the people I work with at my office: Tamara, Rosana, Scott, and Les. With their help I’ve finally become what I had set out to become. I’m not just some unprepared kid acting like an adult but a prepared woman on the way to being an adult.

Hiding within myself
To scared to move
Every breath I take
Takes all my Strength
If only I could end this pain
So hard to move
Wishing to be free
Free from all the misery
To scared to move
Every breath I take
Takes all my Strength
If only I could end this pain
So hard to move
Wishing to be free
Free from all the misery
